Does anyone have any idea what species of beetle this is? The photo was taken whilst walking in the Lake District if it makes identification any easier...

I believe it's a lame beetle, a lesser cousin of the better known leet beetle. Nice photo though! - Ben

Actually you may be right, it does have cool blue tinged bits . . .
